- Mrs. Willson, Franklin School Teacher, Dies
Mrs. L. H. (Ruth) Willson, 1107 Murray Drive, died this morning at 8:10 at
Mary Greeley hospital. She had been a patient there for four weeks.
Cause of death was carcinoma. She had been ill since January.
Mrs. Willson was 63, born Aug. 31, 1890, in McClain county, Illinois. Her
parents moved to Garden Grove, Iowa in 1895.
She was a graduate of Drake university in 1912. She taught school in
several cities before coming to Ames in 1917. She taught in several
schools here and was principal of Welch school at the time of her marriage
in 1922 to Lawrence H. Willson, who is professor of physics at Iowa State
College.
Mrs. Willson began teaching again in 1945 at Franklin school after the
death of her son, Louis, who was killed in action in Germany in 1944.
She taught at Franklin up until she became ill this January.
She was a member of the First Methodist church and local regent of the
DAR. She was active in Camp Fire Girls, in which organization she was a
executive for 20 years.
She is survived by her husband, four brothers - John A. Hamilton of St.
Petersburg, Fla., Ernest P. and Rex Hamilton of Detroit, Herman L.
Hamilton of Garden Grove; three nieces - Mrs. Alice Gittinger of Cheyenne,
Wyo., and Sally Ann and Betty Sue Hamilton of Detroit.
Funeral arrangements will be announced Monday.

- Funeral Tuesday For Mrs. Willson
Funeral services for Mrs. L. H. Willson will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
at the Adams Chapel with the Rev. Robert Pinnell of the First Methodist
church in charge.
Burial will be in Story Memorial Gardens cemetery.
A memorial fund for Franklin school has been started. Gifts may be left
with Clay Stafford at the Ames Trust and Savings Bank or with Supt. of
Schools Harry McPhail.
Mrs. Willson, a teacher at Franklin school, died Saturday.
