Novella Budlong

1921 - 1975


Budlong Rites

Titonka - Mrs. Robert (Novella) Budlong of Titonka, 53, a retired teacher, died Saturday evening at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Mason City. She has been in failing health the past nine months.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Titonka United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roy Hjelmaas officiating. Burial was in the Buffalo Township Cemetery, the Blake Funeral Home in charge.

Pallbearers were Arthur Peterson, Harold Gingrich, Charles Beed, Raymond Baade, Walter Baade and Loren Hans.

Novella, daughter of Henry and Ida Lenz Beier, was born Dec. 19, 1921 at Klemme, Ia. She graduated from Klemme High School in 1937 and attended Mankato State College. She was married at Titonka to Robert Budlong on May 3, 1946 and taught school 26 years, retiring in Sept. of 1974.

She is survived by her husband and two daughters; Linda, Mrs. Wayne Wiley of Bloomington, Ill. and Cynthia, Mrs. Thomas VanHeel, Mason City. There are four grandchildren.

Five sisters and two brothers also survive: Esther, Mrs. Wilbur Haefner, Klemme; Ethel Cook, Klemme; Helen, Mrs. Dennis Leiran, Beltrami, Minn,; Ruth, Mrs. Walt Kalm, Forest City; Mildred Beier, Crookston, Minn.; Elmer, Klemme and Fred, Kanawha.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and a sister.

Services Held Tuesday For Novella Budlong, 53

Funeral services for Mrs. Robert (Novella) Budlong were held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday May 13 at the United Methodist Church in Titonka. The Rev. Roy Hjelmaas officiated, and Music was provided by Mrs. Jack Tieman, organist and Mrs. Lamont Junkermeier, soloist. Blake Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Born at Klemme on December 19, 1921, she was a daughter of Henry and Ida (Lenz) Beier. She graduated from Klemme High School in 1937, and attended Mankato State College.

Coming to Titonka in 1941, she taught school here for 26 years, retiring in 1974

Novie was a member of the Legion Auxiliary and an active member of the Titonka United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School and at the time of death was the chairman of the Commission on Evangelism.

On May 3, 1946, she was married to Robert Budlong at Titonka. They had two children, Mrs. Wayne (Linda) Wiley of Bloomington, Ill. and Mrs. Thomas (Cynthia) VanHeel of Mason City, who both survive.

Other survivors include two brothers, Elmer of Klemme and Fred of Kanawha; five sisters, Mrs. Wilbur (Esther) Haefner of Klemme, Ethel Cook of Kanawha, Mrs. Dennis (Helen) Leiran of Beltrami, Minn., Mrs. Walt (Ruthie) Kalm of Forest City, and Mildred Beier of Crookston, Minn.; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.
