Margaret Ries
1915 - 2000

Klemme native Margaret Ries formerly of Waterloo, died Saturday, Oct. 14 at the Windsor Nursing and Rehab Center, Cedar Falls. She was 85.

Memorial services were held Thursday, Oct. 19 at the Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway in Waterloo. Chaplain Boyd Kuester of the Cedar Valley Hospice officiated.

Inurnment was in the Concord Cemetery, Garner. The Rev. Wendy Trone officiated at the inurnment service.

Margaret (Gates) Ries was born July 12, 1915 in Klemme. She was the daughter of Fred and Cecelia (Nisbet) Gates. On May 26, 1942 Margaret Gates and Kenneth Garver were married. Kenneth Garver died in 1963.

She married Harold Ries on Nov. 3, 1972 in Waterloo. Harold Ries died on June 3, 1994.

Mrs. Ries and her husband owned and operated Kenmar Drug Store for many years.

Survivors include a step-daughter, Barbara Halterman of Pasadena, Texas; and two step grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by both husbands, Kenneth Garver and Harold Ries, her parents; four sisters, Cora Schaefer, Hattie Ridder, Mattie Riemer and Florence Martinson; and a brother Lawrence Gates.

Waterloo - Margaret Ries, 85, formerly of Waterloo, died Saturday, Oct. 14, at Windsor Nursing and Rehab Center, Cedar Falls, of natural causes.

She was born July 12, 1916, in Klemme, daughter of Fred and Cecelia Nisbet Gates. She married Kenneth Garver on May 26, 1942. He died in 1963. She married Harold Ries on Nov. 3. 1972, in Waterloo.  He died June 3, 1994.

Mrs. Ries and her husband owned and operated Kenmar Drug Store for any years.

Survived by: a stepdaughter, Barbara Halterman of Pasadena, Texas; and two grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: four sisters, Cora Schaefer, Hattie Ridder, Mattie Riemer and Florence Martinson; and a brother, Lawrence Gates.

Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with inurnment in Concord Cemetery, Garner.

Memorials: may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
