Frank Gibbs

Frank Gibbs, 77, of Honolulu, died Saturday at his home.

Mr. Gibbs came to Hawaii in 1945 as agency manager of Occidential Life Insurance Agency, and in 1947 organized the American Mutual Life Insurance Agency.  He served on the board of directors of Hawaiian Life Insurance, City Bank, Goodwill Industries and the Pohai Nani Retirement Home.

Memorial services will be held 5 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, 1020 S. Beretania.  Inurnment at Diamond Head Memorial Park will be private.

The family requests that casual attire be worn and flowers be omitted.  Memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church or charity are suggested.

Mr. Gibbs was born in Klemme, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Blanche; two sons, Douglas and John; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Word has been received of the death of a former area resident, Frank Gibbs, in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Gibbs was born April 23, 1907 in Klemme and married to the former Blanche Grimer, (also of Klemme). He and his family moved to Hawaii in 1945. Frank was in the insurance business for many years, serving as the Chief Executive Officer and later as a Director for the Hawaiian Life Insurance Company.

Before moving to Hawaii, Frank graduated from Morningside College, was a Klemme postmaster, was a Social Work Supervisor for the state of Iowa, and during World War II was a regional Director for the War Relocation Authority.

Frank was a first cousin of Asa Gibbs, Ron Gibbs and Harriet Bridgeford. He also was a 50 year member of the Bethel Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife Blanche, two sons; John and Douglas, one brother Charles of Weslaco Tex. and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
