Walter Garth Greiman

1923 - 2004

Milan, Mo. - Walter Garth Greiman, 81, of Milan, formerly of Garner and Lake Mills, died Wednesday (Sept. 29, 2004) at his farm north of Milan. The son of Benjamin and Nettie (Griffin) Greiman, Walter was born in Klemme, Iowa, on Aug. 3, 1923. He married Dorothy Pauline Hartwig in Kanawha on June 28, 1944. At the time of his death, they had been married 60 years.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three sisters, Marie Anderson, Donna Finders and Dorothy Wilson; and two brothers, Floyd and Vern Greiman.

Walter is survived by his wife, Dorothy; one son, Steve Greiman and wife, Rosalie, of Lake Mills; two daughters, Kathy Helgeson and husband, Robert, of LaQuinta, Calif.; and Jane Schaper and husband, Ronald, of Kirksville, Mo.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Nell Flagler, of Phoenix, Ariz.

Walter attended Liberty Township country school and graduated from Klemme High School, where he was a member of the basketball and baseball teams. Walter spent all of his life farming. He was an avid hunter and horseman. He also enjoyed competitive bowling and was a men's fast pitch softball pitcher many years of his adult life.

Walter was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1937 at the Peace Reformed Church in Klemme. Walter was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Milan, where funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, with Pastor David Lukefahr officiating.

Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery in Milan. Casket bearers were his grandchildren and their spouses, Jason and Denise Helgeson, Tyler and Christy Schaper, Jennifer (Schaper) and Chris Hentges, Jessica (Schaper) and Chris Kespohl, Jill Greiman and Christine (Greiman) and Chris Budach.

Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan, Mo., was in charge of arrangements.
