Richard Allen Hanson

1949 - 2005

 

Richard A. Hanson, 55, of Klemme, died on Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at the University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City.

Funeral services were held on Monday, March 7, at the United Methodist Church in Klemme, with the Rev. Paddy Druhl officiating. Music was provided by organist, Madelyn Priebe, who accompanied soloist, Nikki Katter and congregational hymns. Ushers were John Schwichtenberg and Arlyn Waddingham.

Honorary bearers were Craig Larson, Rich Chevallier, Kent Ridlon, Max Christy, Jim Prescott, Dick Esser, Kenneth Weiland, Toby Gouge, Dennis Badker, Shep Ysselstein, Doug Hanson and Ken Hanson. Casket bearers were Dennis Hanson, Ron Hanson, Herman Meyer, Kevin Hanson, Bob Frayne and Mike Little. Burial was in the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme. The Cataldo Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Richard Allen Hanson, the son of John August and Ardella Darlene (Schneider) Hanson, was born on August 23, 1949 in Mason City. He graduated from the Klemme High School in 1968. Rich worked with Craig Larson during and after high school doing auto body repair in Klemme.

In 1968, he married Marilyn Draper in Belmond. The marriage was later dissolved.

Rich worked briefly at Winnebago Industries in the paint and ship out department. He then went to IMT where he worked for 20 years as a paint foreman. In 1981, he started his own auto body specialty paint and repair business, "Rich's Auto Body" in Klemme. He continued to operate the business until 1998 when he began long distance trucking. He was a consultant and a friend to many in the truck driving business.

Over the years he restored many classic cars, but the '55 Chevy was always his favorite. He was especially proud of the '55 Chevy that he and his son worked on together. Rich also loved Harley Davidson motorcycles. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Survivors include his parents, John and Ardella Hanson of Klemme; his maternal grandmother, Lydia Schneider of Garner; two children, Shelly Hanson (Jeremy Eenhuis) and their two children, Summer and Cole, of Klemme and Jason (Patti) Hanson and their two children, Caitlin and Blaine, of Klemme; a sister, Janelle (Herman) Meyer of Mason City; two brothers, Dennis E. Hanson of Garner and Ron (Barb) Hanson of Owosso, Michigan; a special friend, Julie Haugen of Klemme; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, William Schneider; and his paternal grandparents, William and Rebecca Hanson.

He worked in several places as an auto body painter.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William Schneider and William and Rebecca Hanson.

Survivors include his parents of Klemme; grandmother Lydia Schneider of Garner; children Shelly Hanson (Jeremy Eenh uis) and Jason (Patti) Hanson of Klemme; sister Janelle (Herman) Meyer of Mason City; brothers Dennis Hanson of Garner and Ron (Barb) Hanson of Michigan, and special friend Julie Haugen of Klemme.
