Kilgore, Shirley Rae - Shirley Rae Johnson Kilgore, 87, passed away
May 20, 2012. She was born on July 5, 1924 in Spencer, Iowa.
In 1968, she and her husband gracefully moved their family to Hoover,
Alabama, where they fell in love with the area.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, R. C. Kilgore;
parents, Peter and Sara Johnson; and brother, Peter Johnson.
Mrs. Kilgore retired from Positive Maturity's Foster Grandparents Program.
She cherished each and every foster grandparent and their dedication. A
fun-loving woman of many talents, she created a costume for their dog
Toby, winning Best in Show in the 1990 Do Dah Day celebration. She was a
faithful and active member of Shades Valley Lutheran Church, participating
in many ministries over the years including Prayer & Share and Martha
Circle.
Mrs. Kilgore is survived by daughters, Kristin Davis (Max), Patricia
Letteri (Tom), and Terri Smith; son, Matthew Kilgore (Tammy); 10
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Benish and Nancy
Parks; and sister-in-law, Elaine Johnson.
Mrs. Kilgore was an outstanding mother and excelled at being Grandma.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service on
Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Shades Valley Lutheran Church. Interment will
follow at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham, Alabama. In lieu of
flowers, the family suggests memorials to Shades Valley Lutheran Church,
720 Shades Creek Parkway, Homewood, Alabama 35209.
