Harold R “Slim” Jost

1914 - 2003

 

Harold, the son of Henry F. Jost was born 21 Sep 1914 Klemme, Hancock County, Iowa, died 13 Apr 2004 Sandusky, Erie County, Ohio at the age 89.  He was a retired engineer, flying instructor and Air Force Veteran.  His residence was at Ottawa Hills, Ohio. 

He married Virginia Kline 10 Sep 1949 at Risingsun, Ohio.  Virginia died 5 Mar 1977.  Harold is survived by his wife Rhoda.

Slim joined the Army Air Corp and saw action in China-Burma-India Theatre. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as 1st lieutenant and remained in the Reserves, retiring as a Colonel. In 1964, he was assigned as a Liaison Officer for the U.S. Air Force Academy.

In 1989, he received the Most Outstanding Liaison Officer Retiree Award in the nation and in 1999 he received the Lifetime Service Award, both from the U.S. Air Force Academy.

As a civilian, he was employed by O-I and traveled extensively to Japan to help supervise their beginning manufacturing of televisions, based on his expertise as an engineer.

Burial at Saint Michaels In The Hills Memorial Garden, Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio.
