LaVurne Harvey Josten
July 13, 1937 - February 18, 2024

LaVurne Harvey Josten, 86, of Forest City died Sunday, February 18, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday, February 23, 2024 at the Forest City United Methodist Church with Pastor Chris Ebbers officiating.

Visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 P.M., Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Schott Funeral Home, 505 North Clark St. Forest City, IA 50436.

Burial will be held in Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Winnebago County Fair Association and Forest City Good Samaritan Society ice cream machine fund.

LaVurne Harvey Josten was born July 13, 1937 in Ell Township in Hancock County, Iowa on the family farm, the son of August and Vergie (Meinders) Josten. He was married to Sharon Kuhlers on September 25, 1965 at the First Reformed Church in Meservey, Iowa. They were blessed with 58 years together.

LaVurne had a passion for farming and raising livestock, it was a life he loved and cultivated. After graduating from Klemme High School, he worked for area farmers until given the opportunity to start renting farm ground on his own in 1960. LaVurne and his family moved to Forest City and purchased a farm in 1974 and have enjoyed living there for the past 50 years. LaVurne was a diversified farmer, operating a cow-calf herd, farrow to finish hog operation, raising sheep and growing corn, soybeans and alfalfa. He valued working on the farm with family while sharing his love of agriculture with the next generation.

He enjoyed volunteering his time and talents, and served on multiple boards. Especially important to him was being a 4-H Leader with Sharon, Winnebago County Fair Board member, and a Director on the Forest City Elevator Board.

He was a long-time member of the Forest City United Methodist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher, lay speaker (1994-2017) and a 50+ year member of a church choir.

LaVurne is survived by his wife, Sharon of Forest City; daughters, Kayla (Doug) Reynolds of Earlham, IA, Teesha (Karl) Kirschbaum of Olympia, WA; daughter-in-law Connie Josten of Lake Mills, IA; grandchildren, Landon Josten (Becca Martin), Alisha Olson, Charity (Tracy) Nicholson, Felicity (Aaron) Olson, Macy, Blake, and Brady Reynolds, Otto and Amos Kirschbaum; great grandchild, Archer Olson and sibling, LaVohn Josten (Richard Smiley).

He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Bret Evan Josten in 1971, son, Thad Landon Josten in 2019; siblings, LeRoy Josten and LeAllyn Josten and other loved ones.

Funeral Service: Friday, February 23, 2024, 10:30AM, United Methodist Church - Forest City 305 S. Clark St. Forest City, IA 50436.

Final Resting Place: Ell Township Cemetery Klemme, IA.
