Esther Marie Klinge Bertilson

1930 - 1966

 

Services held for Mrs. M. Bertilson

Mrs. Merle (Esther Marie) Bertilson, 36, dies suddenly Friday at her farm home near Klemme. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The Rev. L. G. Leonard officiated, using Isaiah as his text.

Hymns "With Broken Heart," "I Lift My Eyes Unto Heaven Above" and "My Jesus, As Thou Wilt" were sung by the church choir, accompanied by Mrs. Ervin Janssen.

Burial was made in Otis Grove Cemetery, Dows, with the Johnston Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Darwin Wille, Carrol Albers, Leland Hummel, Calvin Goll, Marvin Schmidt and Art Katter.

Esther Marie Klinge was born September 21, 1930, the daughter of Fred and Ella (Schwartz) Klinge. She received her elementary and high school education in the schools at Klemme and attended Waldorf College, Forest City, for two years. She was a teacher in the schools at Dows.

On December 26, 1951, she was united in marriage to Merle Bertilson. They lived on farms in the Clarion, Galt and Thornton communities, moving to a farm near Klemme last spring. She was a member of a home-makers club and of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Garner, where she served as a Sunday School teacher.

Surviving are her husband, Merle; three children, Dennis Lee, Carol Joan and Dean Allen; two step-children, Douglas Eugene and Mary Jo; her father, Fred Klinge of Klemme, and one brother, Merle Klinge, Klemme.

She was preceded in death by her mother and one brother, Wayne.
