Carol Ann (Kluckhohn) Marchant was welcomed into this world on June 28, 1948. She was born at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Mason City and welcomed home by her parents and a brother, Larry. She grew up in Klemme and was a lifelong resident of Klemme. She attended Klemme schools and graduated from Klemme High School with the class of 1966. After graduation, she attended beauty school at La James in Mason City. She was married to Lynn Marchant in 1981 and they later divorced in 1998.

She held many jobs over the years. She had done payroll for the Rock Island Railroad, meat processing, retail, punch cards and a variety of other jobs. She enjoyed working with the public and always got along with everyone she worked with. She was always helping out where she was needed and helping others. She raised her kids to help others as well. It always made her feel good when she did a good deed for someone. This was by opening a door or just taking the time to chat. Carol was a very crafty person and was never bored. She was good at knitting, crocheting, flower arranging, plastic canvas, along with other types of crafts. She also had many hobbies. She also enjoyed cooking and making pies. She liked to go to bingo, watch NASCAR races on TV to cheer on Tony Stewart, scrap booking, and road trips in the state of Iowa. She also enjoyed going on bus trips that were sponsored by the Winnebago/Hancock County Conservation Board. The last bus trip she had been on was June 20 to Sioux City, Iowa.

She was past member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Both Carol and her daughter had been active participants in the Hancock County Relay for Life and she had walked as a first-time survivor in this year’s Hancock County Relay, as well as participating in the Winnebago County Relay event. She also had helped to coordinate and organize the Women’s Fellowship Board announcements at church. She also collected Coca-Cola and A & W items and anything related to Hershey’s. M & M’s and Oreo cookies. Carol enjoyed getting to meet many different people. The first famous person she got to meet was Neal McCoy. She also got to meet Tony Stewart and Al Pierson.

Carol was diagnosed with Stage 4 inoperable lung cancer in December 2009 and was in remission in March 2010. After she was in remission, Carol and her daughter, Angie, decided to get their pictures taken with different individuals whether they were famous or just good friends. They had their pictures taken with Gov. Culver, two local radio personalities and a lieutenant general with the United States Marines, just to name a few.

Carol is survived by her daughter, Angie Kluckhohn, of Klemme; a son, Jeff Marchant, of Des Moines; her only surviving aunt, Jean Schwartz, of Belmond; many cousins, extended family and friends, and of course her beloved dog, Pepper.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Caroline (Schwartz) Kluckhohn on June 9, 2006, and Kenneth Kluckhohn on Dec. 4, 2007.
