Ray David Lange was born in Hancock County, Garner, Iowa on June 2, 1910. He was a son of Albert J. Lange and Maggie M. (Hammon) Lange.

He attended country school and graduated from Klemme High School, then was a student at Iowa State College in Ames for two years. He came to Clayton County in may 1931, to serve as a Dairy Heard Improvement Supervisor for the Garnavillo DHI association, a position he continued to hold until June 2, 1937, when he married Kathryn Kregel of Garnavillo. To this union was born one son, Lorne. They began farming on the Arthur Kregel farm and continued there until March 1953. Then they bought the Eldo Dickman farm where he resided the rest of his life. He served as President of the Clayton County Farm Bureau, was secretary of the Garnavillo Creamery and served as a 4-H leader. He took much interest in soil conservation and won a state award in 1954 for conservation.

He trusted the Lord Jesus as his personal Savior on Dec. 2, 1942, and attended the meetings at the Gospel Hall in Garnavillo.

Mr. Lange continued in good health until January 1988 when his sickness began which eventually resulted in his death. He was in the hospital at times, but was being cared for at home at the time of his decease.

Ray is survived by his wife Kathryn, his son, Lorne, two grandchildren, Troy and Tracy Lange; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and a brother.
