Lorraine Mitchell

1914 - 2006

 

Mason City - Lorraine Mitchell, 92, of Mason City, died Tuesday (Dec. 5, 2006) at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday (Dec. 8, 2006) at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Jim Stiles of First United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Lorraine Lemke was born April 24, 1914, the daughter of William and Ethel (Whitney) Lemke, of rural Garner. She attended rural school through eighth grade and graduated from Klemme High School in 1931. She was baptized and joined Liberty Methodist Church near Klemme. She later transferred to First United Methodist Church in Mason City and continued to be member there. Lorraine and her sister, Ethel, came to Mason City in 1931. She worked various places and spent five years at Weeds Pharmacy, 400 N. Federal Ave. On March 18, 1939, she was united in marriage to Monnie J. Mitchell at the Methodist church in Mason City. She continued to live in Mason City. Her husband, Monnie Mitchell, passed away on Oct. 14, 1975. They spent six winters in Mesa, Ariz. Lorraine continued to spend her winters in Mesa until 1997 when she and her sister, Ethel Volkman, moved to the Willows. After the death of Ethel she moved to The Manor and Kentucky Ridge before moving to Good Shepherd in 2004. She was a former member of Midland Study Club, a Real Estate Broker with W.L. Patton for 10 years, and a Gray Lady for Red Cross for many years, and activity chairman at her church for WSCS for a number of years.

She is survived by three brothers, William W. Lemke of Weyerhauser, Wis., Byrnes Lemke and wife, Stella, of Mason City, and Laurice Lemke of Garner; 10 nieces and nephews, Gwen Suntken and husband, Byron, of Meservey, Paige Rohlf and husband, David, of Altoona, Iowa, Lynn Lemke and wife, Valerie, of Olathe, Kan., Michele Greiman and husband, Stan, of Garner, Brenda Lemke of Houston, Texas, Linda Lindsay and husband, Jay, of Rock Falls, Steven Lemke and wife, Jeannie, of Mason City, William D. Lemke and wife, Sien, of Valhalla, N.Y., Bryant Lemke of Minneapolis, Minn., and Bernard Lemke of Charlotte, N.C.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; two sisters and their husbands, Helen (Ralph) Sellner and Ethel (Arnold) Volkman; and three sisters-in-law, Lavonne Lorenson Lemke, Lou Rabun Lemke, and Marjorie Meinders Lemke.

Arrangements are with Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. in Mason City.
