Audrey Mae Stille

1926 - 2021

Audrey Mae Stille
October 11, 1926 - March 13, 2021

Salisbury – Audrey M. Stille, formerly of Pocomoke City, passed away peacefully at home on March 13, 2021, with her daughter by her side. Born in Hancock County, Iowa, on October 11, 1926, she was the daughter of Lewis Mau and Clara Michelsen.

Audrey graduated from Klemme High School in 1943 at the age of 16. After graduating from the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, she worked as a secretary until she married the love of her life, the late Keith E. Stille, in 1945—just 4 months after her older sister wed his older brother.

While Keith was on active duty in the U.S. Navy, they traveled around the country, settling in several cities, including San Diego, Corpus Christi, Pensacola, and Key West. During this time, Audrey continued working as a secretary, bookkeeper, and office manager, with many positions through Civil Service. In 1954, they put down roots in Pocomoke City, and Audrey worked at the Naval Base on Wallops Island, taking the ferry back and forth each day. In 1962, she retired and concentrated on raising a family.

A devoted daughter, sister, wife, and mother, Audrey loved her family and would do anything for them—and for her friends. This extended to her only child’s friends as well, often hauling kids to the beach and Shad Landing State Park; screaming excitedly while competing at board games; and putting on “carnivals” in her backyard, complete with food, 8mm movies, games, and prizes.

In addition to her parents and husband, Audrey was preceded in death by her brother Lowell and sister-in-law Merlin Mau; sister Maxine and brother-in-law L. William Stille; brother-in-law Paul Johnson; and nephew Danny Mau.

She is survived by her daughter Patricia and son-in-law Cary Lederman of Salisbury, MD; sister Bonnie Johnson of Thompson, IA; nieces Sandy (Chuck) Fandel of Estherville, IA; Lisa (Don) Mathahs of Thompson, IA; Cheryl (Bill) Panther of Iowa City, IA; Connie (Gary) Schleusner of Garner, IA; and Luann (Randy) Heuton of Georgetown, TX; nephews Tom (Kathy) Johnson of Humboldt, IA; Randy (Linda) Mau of Mason City, IA; Steve (Marcia) Stille of Cedar Park, TX; Doug (Shirley) Stille of Osage, IA; and Brian (Karla) Stille of Wellsburg, IA; and several great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service is planned. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Audrey’s name to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802; Salem United Methodist Church, 500 Second Street, Pocomoke City, MD 21851; or MAC, Inc., 909 Progress Circle, Salisbury, MD 21804.

Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home, 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, MD 21804.4 Bold
