Esther L. Beek

1913 - 2001

 
Mason City - Esther L. Beek, 87, of 1037 19th St. S.W., died Saturday (Feb. 10, 2001) at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Mason City, with the Rev. Bill Poland officiating. Interment will be in the Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City/

Memorials may be given to the Esther L. Beek Memorial Fund.

Esther was born Aug. 31, 1913, in Hancock County, Iowa, the daughter of Klaus K. and Mary (Saatoff) Pals. She started country schools in Cerro Gordo County then later attended Klemme High School.

She married Bernard Beek on Feb. 12, 1935, in Clear Lake. They farmed in the North Iowa area for many years before retiring and moving to Mason City.

She was a extremely take-charge person with the farming operation, making a great co-partner with her husband. She was employed by the city of Mason City as a school crossing guard for more than 20 years.

She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, involved in the Esther Circle, along with being active in the Farm Bureau Bath Farm Women.

She is survived by three sons, Gary E. Beek and his wife Florence, of Greene, Craig M. Beek and his wife, Nancy, of Moline, Ill., and Dennis L. Beek and his wife, Linda, of Mason City; granddaughters, Diana Pieper and her husband, David, of West Des Moines, and Michelle Beek, of Mason City; grandsons, Gregory Beek and his wife, Charlie, of Franklin, Tenn., Kirk Beek and his wife, Sarah, of Moline, Ill., Rodney Beek, of Mason City, Terry Beek and his wife, Carla, of Charles City, Dallas Beek, of Campbell, Calif., Bradley Beek and his wife, Grace, of Mason City, and Jason Beek, of Mason City; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Clarence Pals and his wife, Millie, of Forest City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard, on Feb. 13, 1997; two brothers and five sisters.
