Dorothy L. Polsdofer Hiscocks

Dorothy LaVonne Hiscocks passed away February 26, 2019, at Westview Care Center in Britt. Dorothy had suffered from Parkinson Disease for several years.

Funeral services for Dorothy Hiscocks will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Britt United Methodist Church, 7074th Street West in Britt with Pastor Robert Dodge and Youth Pastor Hunter Hiscocks officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation for Dorothy Hiscocks will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Monday, March 4, 2019 at Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Dorothy LaVonne Hiscocks was born March 12, 1935 in Swaledale, Iowa the daughter of Arthur and Ella (Trana) Polsdofer. She attended Hancock County Schools.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert Hiscocks Jr. on July 22, 1951 at the Liberty Methodist Church west of Klemme, Iowa.

She was baptized in the Methodist Church of Swaledale, Iowa. Bob and Dorothy started their married life working for Floyd and Icyle Smith, then for Walt and Valois Koester in Rockwell, Iowa until moving to the family farm west of Britt where they raised four sons and one daughter. Dorothy continued to live on the farm ten years after the death of her husband in 1995. Dorothy moved to a home in town, then moved to the Summit House in 2010. In April 2013, she moved to the Westview Care Center in Britt.

Dorothy worked hard as a farm wife and raising five children, when they got older she worked part-time for Lyle and Vesta Pierce at the Britt Greenhouse. As her children became more involved in school activities, so did Dorothy. Bob and Dorothy chaperoned school trips, including the band trip to Moose Jaw, Canada in 1974. Dorothy enjoyed working at the Hancock County Fair where the family enjoyed many years of showing 4-H projects. She also was co-manager of the 4-H food stand for the fair and the Britt Draft Horse Show. Bob and Dorothy also enjoyed many years of camping at the Iowa State Fair.

After the children left the house, Dorothy started working at the Britt Grade School as a janitor. She enjoyed being around all the children, including her grandchildren.

Dorothy was a member of the Britt United Methodist Church where she was involved in many activities including the Deborah Circle and sewing club. She also helped with the Hobo Day church food stand for several years.

Dorothy enjoyed her 3G Homemakers Club, raising flowers, working in the garden, sewing for her children and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed making quilts which she gave to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren for all those special times in their lives. She was also known to give quilts away to special friends.

Dorothy is survived by her five children and families: Randy (Melodie) Hiscocks of Britt, Iowa, their daughters Crystal (Nate) Drake and sons Weston, Hayes and Baby Drake of Blockton, Iowa, Mandy (Adam) Walters and children Raelin, Henlie and Kaisen of Waukee, Iowa. Doyce (Sue) Hiscocks of Aledo, Illinois and their three children Jeff (Sarah) Hiscocks of Honolulu, Hawaii and sons Blake, Kaleb and Wesley, Jamie (Rob) Cash of Solon, Iowa and sons Brody and Elijah, Jay (Bonnie) Hiscocks of Britt, and daughter Claire. Brad Hiscocks and his son Brendan of Britt, Iowa, Brian (Wanda) Hiscocks of Britt, Iowa, his daughter Jessica (Adam) Otto of Clear Lake , Iowa and sons McKinley, Quinn and daughter Finley, and son Hunter of Dallas, Texas; Janice (Phil) Monson of Humboldt, Iowa and sons Evan of Marshfield, Wisconsin and Robert of Humboldt, Iowa.

Dorothy is also survived by one sister and two brothers: Ardes Bier, Clear Lake, Iowa, Duane Polsdofer, Rockwell, Iowa, Dr. Ed (Ethel) Polsdofer, Saline, Michigan, Her sisters-in-law Bonnie Doughan Britt, Iowa, Colleen Polsdofer Corydon, Iowa, brothers-in-law Donnie (Gloria) Hiscocks, Dale (Rose) Nielsen all of Britt, Iowa, Dean (Marie) Hiscocks, Dexter, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years Robert Jr. in 1995, her parents, her father and mother-in-law Robert Sr. and Mavis Hiscocks, eight sisters Mayvis, Avis, Marian, Elda, Neva, and Sharie Polsdofer, Leona Hanson, Agnes Rice, one brother Lawrence (Bud), sisters-in-law Joan Polsdofer, Loreen Pruitt, Bev Hiscocks, Judy Becker, Jane Nielsen, Nancy Casperson, Kay Hiscocks, Irene Hiscocks, brothers-in-law Art Hanson, Glen Bier, Virgil Rice, Gene Doughan, Bill Hiscocks, Allen Hiscocks, Ken Pruitt, Mike Becker, Monte Hiscocks, Steve Casperson, and Jon Hiscocks.
