Services for Violet Weaver, 79, of Garner who passed away September 1, 1999 at Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa in Mason City were held 10 a.m., Saturday at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Garner with the Rev. Darrell Weber officiating. A special reading was by Al Barz. V.F.W. Auxiliary services were held Friday evening at Cataldo Funeral Chapel.

Music was provided by organist Mrs. Margaret Jass who accompanied Congregational hymns. Usher was Dwight Bovenmeyer.

Casket bearers were Tom Weaver, Craig Weaver, Scott Rayhons, Brent Weaver, Randy Rayhons, Richard Hitzhusen, Bill Quigley and Stan Trca.

Interment was at Concord Township Cemetery, Garner.

Visitation was held Friday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner.

Violet Virginia May Weaver, the daughter of Roy Irwin and Cora May (Gates) Schaefer, was born July 2, 1920 on a farm southwest of Garner in Liberty Township. She was baptized and confirmed at Liberty Methodist Church. Violet attended Liberty Township #9 school and Klemme High School.

On June 10, 1937, she was married to Emory Edward Weaver at the Peace Reformed parsonage south of Garner. They farmed south of Garner until 1954, when they moved into Garner. She worked for Engstler & Markman, Goodnature's Store, Westside Grocery, Garner-Hayfield Community Schools, Dr. L. R. Fuller and Bohn Furniture Store. In 1982, after retiring they became foster parents for eight Vietnamese and three American children. They also provided day care for seven children for several years. Vi had a thirst for knowledge and was continually reading and educating herself.

She was a member of Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church where she taught Sunday school, Bible School, sang in the choir and was a member of the Women's Guild. She also belonged to the Knit & Pearl Club, Hancock County Little Theater and the Garner V.F.W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed her family, friends, quilting and donating her services.

She is survived by two sons, Egon Weaver and his wife, Elaine, of Boone and Troy Weaver and his wife, Amanda, of Cartersville, GA; a daughter Candice Ruppert and her husband, Troy, of Summerville, SC; five grandchildren, Kent Weaver and his wife, Dr. Angela Collins Weaver and their two children, Alyssa and Paul, Heather Nigro and her husband, Mark and their daughter, Autumn, Season Weaver, Heath Ruppert and Shane Ruppert; three sisters, Rise Trca of Garner, Iris Rayhons of Fort Dodge and Daisy Schwichtenberg and her husband, Jesse of Kanawha; two brothers, Merle Schaefer of Sun Valley, CA. and Eugene Schaefer and his wife, Gloria of Mason City; and two sister-in-law, Mildred Schaefer of Garner and Esther Schaefer of Valencia, CA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Emory E Weaver, April 19, 1997. Her parents; two brothers, Calvin "Joe" Schaefer and Donald Schaefer; and a niece Twyla Schaefer.
