Daryl D. Schlei, passed away from a heart attack on February 23, 2020. He was born September 7, 1943 in Mason City, Iowa the son of Elsie and Kermit Schlei where he was raised on a farm in Klemme, Iowa.

He attended Morningside College in Iowa and received his Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling from Mankato State University in Minnesota.

Prior to retiring, he worked in hospital administration at Elgin State Hospital, Good Shepherd Hospital, and Advocate Healthcare and completed his career as Vice President of Condell Medical Center where he was employed for 19 years.

He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Caribbean, and Europe. Spending time with his grandchildren was very important to him along with attending all of their sporting events and dance performances. He loved to play golf, explored all of the sites of Chicago, entertained his family and friends, and spent his winters in sunny Florida for the last 13 years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Susan Swift Schlei; his daughters Rebecca (Steve) Bramer, Karin (Scott) Lancz; four grandchildren: Gillian, Samantha and Gavin Bramer, Blake Lancz; Brother Duane Schlei; Aunt Elaine Kjar, and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, aunts and uncles.

He will be missed dearly by his family and his new puppy, Eddie.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 6, 2020, from 4:00-8:30pm, Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin, IL 60123.

Services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church, 216 E. Highland Ave, Elgin, IL 60120.

 

Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00am with funeral services starting at 11:00am.

 

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or the First United Methodist Church of Elgin.
