Wava I. Geary
August 13, 1926 - February 20, 2018

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at United Methodist Church, Corwith. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 PM on Friday, February 23, 2018 at the Corwith Community Center.

Wava Irene and her twin brother Wayne Claire Schoenwetter were born August 13, 1926 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City, Iowa to Edward and Nora (Swanson) Schoenwetter of Twin Lake Townships, Klemme, Iowa. They attended rural school Twin Lake Township District Number 2 for their first 8 years; Wava went on to attend Klemme High School, graduating with the class of 1944. After graduation she completed the Normal Training Course at Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She taught in rural schools in Twin Lake and Liberty Townships for the next few years.

On August 1, 1947, she was united in marriage to Elwood W. Geary at the United Methodist Church in Klemme, Iowa. They made their first home in Klemme, where Elwood was employed at the Klemme Times.

Elwood and Wava purchased the Corwith Herald on August 1, 1951, and moved to Corwith. They operated the newspaper until May 23, 1988, and continued to make their home in Corwith after retirement.

Wava was a member of Corwith United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and the Prayer Team. She was a former member of the review board of Duncan Heights, as well as a member of the Hancock County Historical Society, 500 Card Club, Prayer Shawl Team, and Corwith Community Club. She was always willing to help out with many community activities.

Wava is survived by her children, Eldon and Darlene Geary of Lee Summit, Missouri and their children Tami, Miki, and Tony and their families; Mike and Deb Geary of Clarion, Iowa and their children Meghan, Troy, Michelle and their families; and Pam beck of Park Ridge, Illinois and her children Jack and Amelia. She is also survived by her 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Wava was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood; her parents; two sisters, Irma and Velda; three brothers, Lyle, Merle and Wayne; and son-in-law Paul Beck.

Wava continued to make new friends in life, and she spent many happy hours playing cards and dominoes with her dear friends at The Meadows in Clarion, Iowa. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and much love, at the Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday, February 20, 2018.
