Shirley T. Garfin
November 25, 1929 - June 5, 2015

Shirley Theone Garfin of Mason, City Iowa passed away peacefully on June 5 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Forest City, Iowa.

A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday (June 10, 2015) at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason City with Msgr. Joseph J. Slepicka officiating. Burial will be in the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be given to the MacNider Art Museum, Shirley Garfin Art Scholarships.

Shirley was born on November 25, 1929 in Klemme, Iowa. Shirley was passionate about art and poetry and was a founding member of the North Iowa Artist’s League and the North Iowa Writer’s Club. She won many prizes for both her art and poetry. Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family, whom she loved unconditionally. She spent many hours painting, drawing, and doing various craft projects with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She also loved camping and going on picnics with her family. Shirley worked at Federal Upholstery as a seamstress when she was first married but her lifetime job was raising her four rambunctious boys.

Shirley will be missed by her children, Andy (Altha) Garfin of Litchfield Minnesota, Tom (Michele) Garfin of River Falls, Wisconsin, and Russ (Kathy) Garfin of Forest City, Iowa, grandchildren, Aaron, Kyle, Jessica, Mark, Kate and Jake Garfin, and great-grandchildren, Sydney, Preston, Cassidy, Kylie, Quentin and Owen, and brother, Larry Stille.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Milton, sons, John and Timothy, and brothers Glenn and Harlan.
