George Richard Stokesbary Jr.

1918 - 1983

 

George R. Stokesbary

Services for George R. Stokesbary Jr. 64, of 1238 York St., who died of a heart ailment Thursday at home, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Visitation Catholic Church.  Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery.

Born in Klemme, Mr. Stokesbary had lived in Des Moines since 1941.  He retired in 1981 as Polk County weed commissioner and formerly was with the Des Moines Fire Department.  He was a member of the Dowling Club and a World War II Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Marie; a son, Thomas S. of Ankeny; two daughters, Linda Ashing and Pamela Hilllabolt, both of Des Moines; two sisters, Florence Bair and Eva Glassell, both of Storm Lake; and six grandchildren.

The family suggests that any memorial contributions be made to Dowling High School scholarship fund.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. today and a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Hamilton's Funeral Home.
