Redwood Falls - Marvin Merle Stokesbary, 86, of Redwood Falls died Tuesday at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.

The service is at 2 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Morgan. Burial with military honors will follow at Crestlawn Gardens in rural Redwood Falls.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Morgan and continues at the church Saturday for one hour before the service.

He was born Jan. 26, 1921, in Klemme, Iowa, to Clinton and Ada (Peterson) Stokesbary. He grew up in the Garner and Mason City, Iowa, area, and graduated from Klemme High School.

He worked as a farm hand in Good Thunder and Amboy, then in Puyallup, Wash., before returning to Minnesota and enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He served during World War II from 1942 to 1946 as an aviation machinist mate, stationed primarily in Hawaii.

On June 30, 1945, he married Kathleen Cole in Hanley Falls and they made their home in Jacksonville, Fla. After his discharge from the Navy, they moved to Beauford, Minn., where he worked on the Ballard Brothers farm. They then lived and farmed in the Mankato area until moving to Wells. In 1957 they moved to the Morgan area, where they purchased a farm. While farming, he sold Badger-Northland farm equipment and other short-line farm machinery, feed from Hubbard, Milling, Big Gain and Kent Feed, and DeKalb seed corn for more than 50 years. In 1985 the couple moved to Redwood Falls, where he continued as a farm supply and equipment dealer.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Morgan, where he taught adult education and served on various boards. He was also a lifetime member of the Morgan VFW.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Arlyn (and Sandy) of Slayton, Ronald (and Janet) of Longville and Curtis (and Kathy) of Redwood Falls; two daughters, Jodell (and Ron) Winter of Great Falls, Mont., and Mary Jean (and Randal) Koll of Belle Plaine; a son-in-law, Henry Ripka of Owatonna; 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Maxine (and Merlin) Upmeyer of Garner, Iowa, Bonnie (and John ) Osnes of Forest City, Iowa, Ruth (and Bob) Law of Clear Lake, Iowa, and Phyllis (and Dusty) Devens of Apache Junction, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Ripka, and by three brothers and one sister.
