Larry D. Wessels

Rockwell - Larry D. Wessels, 64, of 305 Third St. S. in Rockwell, died Sunday (Dec. 1, 2002) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa due to complications of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 502 Second St. S. in Rockwell, with the Rev. Ronald Bolinger officiating. Interment will be at the Rockwell Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Fullerton Funeral Home in Rockwell and will continue one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.

Larry Dale Wessels was born May 10, 1938, near Meservey, the son of Fred and Amanda (Meints) Wessels. He has lived in the Rockwell area for approximately 29 years, and was employed with Land O' Lakes as a mill employee.

Larry was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Rockwell and was also a member of the Classic Car Club. He and his wife, Carol, experienced much enjoyment owning and driving two Ford retractable hardtop show cars, a turquoise 1957 and a black 1959. They attended several out- of-state car conventions and participated in many local parades.

Larry also enjoyed watching any car restoration television shows, reading any type of "dream car" magazines and watching sports of all types. He treasured special vacations especially cruises, including Alaska.

Larry is survived by his wife, Carol of 37 years; daughter, Mary Jo (Lynn) Brady of Bondurant; son, Brian (Dawn) Wessels of O'Fallon, Ill.; son, Bruce (Brenda) of Eau Claire, Wis.; and son, Bradley Wessels of Chippewa Falls, Wis. Other survivors include his four sisters, Arlene (Bill) Harson of Kanawha, LaVonne (Eldon) Doane of Thornton, Sharon (Roger) Frank of St. Ansgar, and Karon (Jim) Clements of Cedar Falls. Six grandchildren, Joshua and Holly Brady, Tyler and McKenzie Wessels, and Andrew and Morgan Wessels, along with great-grandchild, Keagan Brady, will all miss their grandpa. Many relatives and friends will also fondly remember Larry.

His parents and a daughter, Linda, preceded him in death in April of 1998.
