Lillian LuElla Blau

1932 - 2022

Lillian "Lil" Blau
November 29, 1932 – July 17, 2022

Lillian LuElla Blau of Ames, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2022, after a difficult battle with cancer. A friends and family memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Steven's Memorial Chapel in Ames with burial at the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Lillian was born November 29th, 1932 in Klemme, Iowa to Carl and Edna Wille. She married the love of her life Virgil C. Blau May 30, 1958. She graduated from Iowa Teachers College (University of Northern Iowa) in 1952 and became a kindergarten teacher in the Alexander, Eldora, Webster City, and Gilbert school districts. They then moved to Ames and she worked for Iowa State University in the Accounting department until her retirement.

Lil enjoyed walking, biking, going on adventure walks with her grandchildren, and dancing at Lake Robbins to big band music with her husband Virgil. She had many friends who also enjoyed dancing and spending time with her. She always had time to play with her grandkids and celebrate birthdays and holidays. Every year she would read “The Night Before Christmas” to everyone with her favorite pop-up book which she also used to share with her kindergarten students. At the end of the story, everyone would join in with “Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”

Left behind to cherish her memory include her sister, Arlene Kaduce of Klemme, IA, her son, Kirk (Elizabeth) Blau of Alton MO, her daughter, Gina (Doug) Hansen of Ankeny IA, and her grandchildren Ryan (Arie) Blau, Ashley (Gil) Rodriquez, Jared (Amanda) Blau, Colin (Kristen) Hansen, Derek Hansen, and his fiancee Katie Jacobson, great-grandchildren, Carson and Kellen Hansen, Casen, Travis, and Elora Rodriquez, and Odin Blau. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Virgil, her brother Merlin, and her brother-in-law Leonard.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.StevensMemorialChapel.com for the Blau family.
