Earl Blue Of Hospers Passes On

Earl R, Blue, 69, former school superintendent at Hospers, now retired, died Sunday night following a heart attack.

Mr. Blue was born Feb. 13, 1890 at Washta. He married Ella Woolridge Sept. 14, 1917 at Sioux City. He was a veteran of World War I. He retired a few years ago but the couple continued to make their home in Hospers.

Surviving are Mrs. Blue; a son Donald of Pittsburg, Kans; a daughter, Mrs. Darlene Bullard, Boone; 16 grandchildren; three brothers, Clarence of Sioux City, Emery of Lincoln, Neb., Arthur of Mount Vernon, Ia. and a sister, Mrs. Joy Bixby of LeMars.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Hospers Presbyterian church in charge of Rev. Henry Rikkers. Burial was in the Grand Meadow cemetery near Washta.

Mr. Blue's hobby was grafting fruit trees and he was considered an authority on this subject having been successful with his own trees and those of neighbors and friends.

Funeral services for Earl Ray Blue, 69, were held Wednesday, May 6, 1959, at the Presbyterian Church in Hospers, Iowa. Mr. Blue was born at Washta, Iowa, on February 13, 1890. He married Miss Ella Woolridge at Sioux City on September 14, 1917. She is a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jack Woolridge of Correctionville and graduated from the Correctionville High School in 1910. Mrs. R.B. Van Houten and Mrs. Delilah Thom are her cousins.

Deceased was a school teacher and superintendent of public schools his entire life. Following his last position as superintendent of Hospers Public School, they retired in Hospers. Mr. Blue passed away suddenly Sunday evening, May 3, 1959, at his home.

Survivors include the widow, a son Donald of Pittsburg, Kansas, and a daughter, Mrs. Douglas (Darlene) Bullard of Boone, Iowa. A son, Kenneth, died in infancy. Also surviving are six grandchildren and three brothers, Clarence of Sioux City, Emory of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Arthur of Mt. Ayr, Iowa.
