- William E. Collins Dies in Des Moines
Services conducted by the Rev. Father, J. P. Connell, were conducted at
St. Mary's church Monday morning for William E. Collins, 70, a former
resident of Eldora, late of Des Moines, who died Friday at Mercy hospital
in that city. Music was in charge of Mrs. Edward White and the church
choir. Miss Emma Burke and Mrs. Agnes Holmes cared for the flowers.
Pallbearers were Thomas Lawler, Frank Lawler, John Lawless, M. B. Landon,
Joe Kramer, jr., and Charles Shafer. Burial was made in St. Mary's
cemetery.
Born in Benton County Iowa, March 12, 1870, Mr. Collins was graduated from
Iowa State Teachers college in 1894. August 17, 1897, he was married to
Ella Scurry. He taught school for 26 years, holding positions in Rock
Valley, Rock Rapids and Lake Park, Iowa and Ellsworth, Minn. He resided in
Eldora 15 years, afterwards going to Des Moines. Mrs. Collins died Feb.
12, 1939.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Collins of Des Moines and two brothers,
Peter Collins of Rock Rapids and M. J. Collins of Vinton.

Funeral services will be held in Eldora, Ia., at 9 a.m. Monday for William
E. Collins, 70, of 411 Forty-eighth St., who died Friday
evening in Mercy hospital. He had been a resident of Des Moines 10 years,
coming here from Eldora.
A daughter, Mary, of Des Moines, and two brothers, M. J. Collins of
Vinton, Ia., and Peter Collins of Rock Rapids, Ia., survive.
