Harry R. Gibbs

Services held for Harry Gibbs, 80

Services for Harry R. Gibbs, 80, of Klemme were held last Friday, July 27, at 1:30 p.m. from the United Methodist church of Klemme, with the Rev. Donald L. Campbell officiating.

Mr. Gibbs died on Tuesday evening, July 24, at the Belmond Community hospital. He had reached the attained age of 80 years, eleven months, and 26 days.

Comfort in music was supplied by Mrs. Noel Katter, organist, and the duet of Mrs. Russell Thorson and Mrs. Wayne Whitney, singing "Nearer My God to Thee," and , "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God," He was laid to rest in the Klemme cemetery. The pallbearers were; Jotham Gibbs, Jerry Meyers, Lester Ward, Calvin Bruggeman, Merlin Schlicting, and David Waddingham. The Willim-Andrew Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Gibbs was born July 31, 1892, in Ell township of Hancock County. He was the son of Asa and Isabelle (Collins) Gibbs. He was reared in Ell township, attended school in Ell and Avery townships and graduated from the Klemme schools. After finishing his education he began farming and farmed his entire life in the Klemme area.

On January 28, 1914, Mr. Gibbs was united in marriage to Esther Lenz at her parents home in Klemme, where she now lives. They retired in 1961 to their home in Klemme. They had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1964.

Mr. Gibbs was a member of the Klemme United Methodist church and had been a trustee of that church for a number of years. He had also served on the board of directors of the Klemme Community School for a number of years.

Surviving Mr. Gibbs are his wife, Esther, and four children; Asa of Garner, Mrs. Virgil (Harriet) Bridgeford of Mason City; Ronald of Garner; Isabelle Gibbs of Salem, Oregon. Three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Anna Gibbs of Klemme.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
