Larry Lee Leinbaugh
February 22, 1938 - February 4, 2019

Larry Lee Leinbaugh, 80, of Omaha, NE, passed away Monday, February 4, 2019, at Azria Nursing Home in Omaha, NE.

Larry was born on February 22, 1938, in Ida County, IA. He was the son of James Buren (Bun) Leinbaugh and Carrie (Hansen) Leinbaugh.

He attended Holstein Community School and graduated in 1957. During his high school years Larry was an all around athlete and excelled in several sports including basketball, the conference champion football team, and was a state champion track sprinter.

After high school Larry attended Morningside College in Sioux City, IA. He graduated in February 1962 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. Larry again pursued his love of sports at the collegiate level in football and track. He later went on to earn his MA degree from Northwest Missouri State University.

On June 13, 1959, Larry was united in marriage to Roann (Schrank) of Danbury, Iowa. The couple was blessed with three sons, Mike, Randy and Rick.

Larry began his lifetime of teaching and coaching in Klemme and Clarksville, IA, before moving to Denison in 1966 where he would spend the next 14 years and raise his family. In 1980, Larry went on to become high school principal at Odebolt-Arthur for 16 years before his retirement in 1996. While teaching and coaching, Larry also began officiating high school basketball games across the region in 1970, which would later earn him the honor of being inducted into the Iowa High School Athletic Association Officials Hall of Fame in 2011. Over three decades of students, staff and families have been greatly impacted by the positive attitude and vibrant personality of the beloved, Mr. Leinbaugh and Coach.

Through the years, when Larry had time away from school, you would find him faithfully attending Saturday night Catholic mass, enjoying his passion for the game of golf, watching his favorite sports on television, challenging friends to a game of cribbage, skiing down a mountain slope in Colorado, racing across Lake Okoboji on a snowmobile, cutting a rug with his awesome jitterbug skills, or just kicked back enjoying an ice cold beer and a sizzling steak, hot off the grill.

Larry is survived by his wife, Roann of Omaha, NE; children, Mike Leinbaugh of Odebolt, IA; Rick Leinbaugh (Shari) of Gretna, NE; grandchildren: Ashley Bantz (Ryan) of St. Louis Park, MN; Tyler Leinbaugh (Emily), of Lawton, IA; Dalton Leinbaugh (Shae) of Odebolt, IA; Zachary Leinbaugh of Omaha, NE; Parker Leinbaugh of Omaha, NE; great grandchildren: Chloe Leinbaugh, Marlow Bantz (and two new babes arriving in March and April); his dear sister, Martha Hartman of Mt. Horeb, WI; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, James & Carrie Leinbaugh; son, Randy Leinbaugh; brothers, Wyman Leinbaugh, Jack Leinbaugh and Lyle Leinbaugh.
