August 19, 1934 - March 30, 2017

Carol Sue Wiltse Ploeger, 82, of Marshalltown, IA passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, in Iowa City, IA. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 3, 2017, at First Presbyterian Church, in Marshalltown. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services at the church. Memorials can be made to the Marshalltown Community School Foundation. The family will designate the gifts to Franklin School in Carol's memory. Anderson Funeral Homes, 405 W. Carol was born August 19, 1934 to Fay and Kathryn (Steffe) Wiltse, in Pisgah, IA. She graduated from Pisgah High School, in 1951. Carol attended the University of Nebraska-Omaha where she earned a two year teaching degree in 1952 and began teaching elementary students in Beebetown, IA. Carol was united in marriage to Richard Ploeger on June 7, 1953, in Pisgah. After marriage, she and Richard moved to the Brooke Consolidated School, in Peterson, IA, where they both taught. She later taught in Klemme and Akron, IA. She received her B.A. degree from the University of South Dakota, in 1966. After moving to Marshalltown with her family in 1967, Carol taught kindergarten in their elementary schools until health reasons forced her into early retirement. Carol was diagnosed with diabetes at age nineteen and it eventually led to the loss of both legs and major heart complications. Carol accepted her misfortune
and kept a very positive attitude. Carol belonged to a number of organizations including Book Club, National Society of TTT, PEO Chapter and the Presbyterian Church. She was a dedicated sports fan and followed her son Jeff and his friends on the Marshalltown Bobcat teams in the early 70's. Carol was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Carol will be missed by her husband, Richard, a son, Jeffery (Susan) Ploeger of Burlington, IA, a daughter, Christine Cameron of Urbandale, IA, four granddaughters; Meredith (Matt) Glendening, Jennifer (Allen) Simpson, Emily (Marc) Matuska, Elizabeth (Ben) Sheridan, four great grandchildren, a brother, Robert (Bonnie) Wiltse of Correctionville, IA, and a sister, Janice Paper of State Center, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law Streetar Cameron.
