Donald J. Smith

Donald J. Smith, 75 was born in Des Moines-Valley Jct., IA. He passed away March 18, 2001. A World War II Vet with 2 1/2 years duty in the South Pacific.
 

He graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, IA. He taught in Klemme, IA and moved to AZ in 1955, where he attended ASU and received his masters degree. He taught and coached at Sunnyslope High School for 31 years. He won numerous team athletic championships and was given the title of "The Winningist Coach" to hit slope by his students. He retired from Sunnyslope as Assistant Principal.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley of 54 years. A son Steve of Silverton, CO and a daughter Linda of Phoenix, 4 grandchildren, Andrea, Cory, Alicia and Jamie and 4 great-grandchildren.

Urnside Committal, 9:30AM, Friday, March 23, 2001 at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix, AZ. Memorial service will be 11:00AM, Saturday, March 24, 2001 at Hansen Chapel, 8314 N. 7th St., Phoenix, AZ 85020.
