Services for Emory E. Weaver, 81, of Garner who died Saturday, April 19, 1997, at the Concord Care Center in Garner, were held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday April 22, at Zion Evangelical & Reformed Church in Garner with Rev. Darrell Weber as officiant.

Mrs. Alan Jass, organist accompanied Warren Torkelson, soloist. Ushers were Gordon Upmeyer, Alan Jass and H. W. "Bud" Montgomery.

Casket bearers were Stan Trca, Tom Weaver, Craig Weaver, Brent Weaver, Randy Rayhons and Scott Rayhons.

Burial was at Concord Township Cemetery in Garner. Visitation was held Monday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel at 160 E. 4th St. in Garner.

Emory Edward Weaver, the son of Louis F. and Lydia Marie (Greiman) Weaver, was born April 7, 1916, at Garner. He attended Ell Township #3 and Garner High School.

June 10,1937,he married Violet Schaefer at the Peace Reformed parsonage south of Garner. They farmed south of Garner until 1954 when they moved to 735 W. 6th St. in Garner. Emory had worked for Hancock County Co-op Oil Ass'n in Klemme, drove a school bus for the Klemme Community Schools, was employed by Cropley & Kern Phillips 66 Station in Garner and at Winnebago Industries in Forest City, until retiring in 1981.

Emory and Violet established a "Child's Day Care" for babies and young children, which they ran for several years. In 1982, they became foster parents, caring for an American boy, two American girls and eight Vietnamese children. They enabled them to go to secondary school, college and obtain jobs.

Emory was baptized and confirmed at Peace Reformed Church, south of Garner. In 1954, they transferred membership to Zion Evangelical & Reformed Church where Emory served as a Deacon, Elder, president of the congregation and custodian for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Violet Weaver of Garner; two sons, Egon Weaver and his wife, Elaine of Boone, Troy Weaver and his wife, Amanda of Cartersville, GA; a daughter, Candice Ruppert and her husband, Troy of Summerville, SC; five grandchildren, Kent Weaver and his wife, Angela of Metairie, LA, Heather Nigro and her husband, Mark of Boone, Season Weaver of Cartersville, GA and Heath Ruppert and Shane Ruppert, both of Summerville, SC; two great-grandchildren, Autumn Weaver of Boone and Alyssa Weaver of Metairie, LA; two brothers, Wiley Weaver and his wife, Evelyn of Rockwell, and Elwin Weaver and his wife, Florence of Garner; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lydia Weaver, December 21, 1968; his father, Louis Weaver, May 7, 1972; a brother, Fredrick J. Weaver, in February of 1926; and a sister, Bernice W. Maryhew, February 22, 1982
