Florence N. Schaeffer

Rites Saturday for Florence Schaeffer

Memorial service for Mrs. Earl (Florence) Schaeffer, 84, of Forest City will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Forest City. Rev. Gary Marzolf will officiate. Jan Harrie and Rev. Gary Marzolf, soloists, will be accompanied by Nancy Farndale, organist.

Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Forest City, at a later date. Peterson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Florence N. Schaeffer was born Nov. 4, 1910, in Little Rock, the daughter of Rev. E. Carnell and Martha J (Janssen) Wilson. She graduated from high school in Lake City, Minn., and went to Yankton College in South Dakota. She taught school on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota and also in Klemme and served in the WACC Auxilary.

August 17, 1935, she was married to Earl G. Schaeffer of Forest City, where they spent most of their married life.

She died Jan 3, 1995, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines of complications due to an infection.

Mrs. Schaeffer was a member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, a Girl Scout leader for 26 years and a long time member of the American Legion.

Survivors include her husband, Earl Schaeffer of Forest City; a daughter, Virginia del Rosario of Des Moines; a son, Jon Schaeffer of Bellevue, Wash; five grandchildren and a sister, Fan Kinkade of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the United Methodist Church.
